Need Directions when you hit a Fork in the Flooring Road . . .

April 23, 2010

I want new flooring.  I’ve been on the internet looking and researching at all options.  My head is full of information about nylon carpet  fiber verses polyester carpet fiber, stain-guard or StainMaster, tile or porcelain, laminate or  hardwood.  Still  can’t make a decision?  You’ve reached that fork in the flooring road.

Buying flooring today is not as easy as you think because of the huge selection that is available in today’s market place.    There are more products available in more color choices that will make your plate spin.  Take laminates for example.  It was invented in 1977, introduced into the European market in 1984 and the US market in 1994.  It is a relatively new product in the flooring industry.  When compared  to red oak hardwoods, laminates are in their infancy.  Every year, the laminate products are improving, thanks to modern technology.

The flooring manufacturers have definitely benefited from today’s technology.   This technology has kept the cost of flooring at an affordable level, more specifically in carpet production. For example, in 1967 the average value for carpet (not woven or tufted) was approximately $3.76 s/y or $0.42 s/f.  In 2009, the average value was $16.41 s/y or $1.82 s/f.  You might think that is a big increase.  Let’s just take another example.  In 1967, the average value for a Shelby Ford Mustang was approximately $4000.  The average value in 2009 is $68,988 (depending on where you live).  You can’t put a lid on this fact.  Flooring manufacturers are doing something right and you as a consumer are getting the benefits and value.

Value is what we have at ProSource of Columbia. There several flooring products in the Showroom specifically marked  ValueSource.  ValueSource products are great products, at an extremely great value without compromise to quality and beauty.  ValueSource products is the right direction when you hit that fork in the flooring road.  For more information, please call ProSource of Columbia  at 803-933-9088 or visit our website at www.prosourcefloors.com/columbia.

Color Names of Carpet

April 7, 2010

Have you ever thought of who created them?  Does this subject INTRIGUE you?  Next time your shopping for carpet, take notice of the different color names.  You can really APPRECIATE the effort or be totally BEDAZZLED. There is a marketing  EXECUTIVE in a GREY SUIT that is given this job.  He walks around and sees something.  In GLEE , he writes down what he thinks is a FABULOUS color name.

How many of you like those old time Westerns?  The cowboy sitting in his SADDLE, wearing LEATHER CHAPS, which are made of the finest BROWN LEATHER just east of the  GRAND CANYON, yells WESTWARD HO.  As the WAGON WHEEL starts to roll, churning up dust from the GREAT PLAINS, you may catch a COTTON TAIL  ZIG-ZAG to get out of the way or a TUMBLEWEED spin across the territory.   At the end of the TV show or the movie, someone sings HAPPY TRAILS to you, ‘till we meet again.

This is just my opinion, but I believe there are more carpet colors named after food than any other subject.  Let’s just stay with Breakfast.  You have several carpet color options!  Try a warm FRENCH PASTRY or a sliver of COFFEE CAKE with a SWISS MOCHA.  For the healthy conscience people, how about some nuts like WALNUT,  DARK PECAN or TOASTED ALMOND or BROWN SUGAR and CINNAMON on your OATMEAL while drinking CRANBERRY juice.  Nothing beats CRACKER BARREL for CHOCOLATE chip pancakes with MAPLE SYRUP. YUMMY!  In England, if you order a BISCUIT it’s not what you think.  It is a BUTTER COOKIE.

Thinking of taking a JOURNEY?    Are you the daring, type A person that has a lot of STRENGTH and AGILITY? You might then APPRECIATE  a trip on a JET  to TIBET or the NORTH SEA.  If you get chilled from the SNOWY WHITE VISTAS,  you can leave for the warmer climates and get a tan on some EXOTIC ISLE or sooth those aching muscles in a FABULOUS HOT SPRING.   Since PHOTOGRAPHY is in my blood, a trip to a COASTAL area like CAPE CODE or NANTUCKET would be nice.  I’d sit on an ADIRONDACK chair in hopes of photographing  a SCHOONER sailing  by. Only the HOURGLASS SAND keeps time.  It would be nice, but I’m ONLY DREAMING.

We hope you had fun reading this article.  If you have purchased a carpet with an unusual color name, please ENLIGHTEN us.  Also, you don’t have to keep this story a TOP SECRET. As a matter of fact, we’ll CELEBRATE the fact if you can ENLIGHTEN everyone from the MT. SAINT HELEN to PLYMOUTH rock.  To see if, in fact, these carpet color names exist, DRIFT on over to ProSource of Columbia.  It would be JUST PEACHY keen!  Maybe you’ll get LUCKY and find an ELEPHANT HIDE
